History 4 - The Modern World
This class surveys the events ideas and cultures from the mid-19th Century through the end of the cold war. Primarily focused on American History and Intellectual History, with elements of geography and history of the significant world events that have brought multiple civilizations into conflict. Shaped to pair well with Lit 4.
NOTE: Student expectations are only for live classes. There are no expectations or teacher support for self-paced courses.

one book review
one position paper
Required Texts:
-Penguin History of the World, J.M. Roberts and Odd Arne Westad (6th edition, 2013)
-Sources of the Western Tradition, Volume 2, Marvin Perry (9th edition preferred but not required, and cheaper than later editions.)
Not Required but Recommended: Smithsonian’s History of the World Map By Map
