British Literature

This broad survey of British Literature begins with the Anglo-Saxon epic, Beowulf, followed by excerpts from the medieval classic, The Canterbury Tales. We touch on the Arthurian legends in Gawain and the Green Knight and excerpts from Mallory’s Le Morte D’Arthur. We’ll read the first book of Spenser’s The Faire Queen, and a selection of works by the greatest of English writers, Shakespeare. We’ll tackle the incomparable epic, Paradise Lost, the poetry of the Romantic era, and gothic works like Frankenstein and Jane Eyre. We will experience Dicken’s, David Copperfield, and conclude with the foreboding dystopian novel, 1984. This course will be an unforgettable experience for every student.

Please see the course calendar for meeting time. All class sessions will be recorded.
